With This Ring
Respect this vow, take it and wear it
upon your person
the thin sliver of gold or silver a token of faith.
Keep close the words you have spoken, believe that dawn’s intention
is for you to speak them again, to open
to the smile that is saved for you alone. The one that shines
even through thunderstorms and clouds; a rainbow’s treasure
from your beloved.
And that hand, its own circlet a covenant,
reaching for yours no matter the weather.
Behold the morning itself, another opportunity
to awake to the present
to be with your other.
Trust that two can figure things out.
Trust that more important than words,
than food or cash, ambition or desire, more
important even than time, is hope. That which lives
in the pleasure of blossoms
revealing themselves to the expanding light
that which in the gentle untangling
that patience allows
seeds re-creation in every living thing. For this is the vow
the world makes
each new morning.
Pledge, then, in your own circumambulation around the sun
to remember this day, and each season honour it’s passing
until that evening
when you finally embrace
another layer
in the patina
of your own
understanding
of Love.
